MARDOME TRADE OPENING – CONTROLLED DAYLIGHTING & VENTILATION

The Mardome Trade Opening Polycarbonate Dome Rooflight is designed to provide natural daylight and controlled ventilation for commercial and industrial flat roofs. This model is used where airflow is required through a manual or powered opening. A separate fixed polycarbonate rooflight is available for applications where ventilation is not required.

GLAZING OPTIONS

Single Skin

Used in unheated buildings where insulation is not required.

Double Skin

Used in lightly heated buildings to reduce heat loss and condensation.

Triple Skin

Used where improved thermal performance is required with good daylight levels.

Quad Skin

Used where higher insulation and added impact resistance are required.

OPENING OPTIONS

Manual Opening

Used where the rooflight is within reach and only occasional opening is required.

Powered – Wall Switch

Used where regular operation is required and simple fixed control is preferred.

Powered – Remote Control

Used where the rooflight is out of reach or where easier access is required.

Powered – Rain Sensor

Used where automatic closing is required during rainfall.

AVAILABLE SIZES AND TINT OPTIONS

This opening rooflight is available in standard sizes to suit common roof openings. Lengths (mm): 600, 750, 900, 1050, 1200, 1350, 1500, 1650, 1800. Widths (mm): 600, 750, 900, 1050, 1200, 1350, 1500. The selected size should allow sufficient daylight while maintaining roof structure and spacing requirements. For multiple rooflights, spacing should be planned to provide even light distribution across the area.

Tint Options

Tint options are used to control light levels and glare. The three available finishes cover the most common daylighting and privacy requirements for commercial and industrial applications.

  • Clear Polycarbonate: Used where high light transmission is required. Provides maximum natural light into the space below.

  • Opal Finish: Used to diffuse light and reduce glare. Distributes daylight more evenly across the internal space.

  • Patterned Finish: Used where diffused light and added privacy are required. Suitable for areas where direct visibility through the rooflight is not desirable.

Shape and Kerb Options

  • The low-rise dome is used for general flat roof applications. low-rise pyramid is also available where a wider light spread is required across internal spaces.

  • Kerb Options include installation onto a builder's upstand (refurbishment), a 150mm PVC kerb for standard flat roof build-ups, or a 300mm PVC kerb where thicker insulation or increased waterproofing height is required.

The Mardome Trade Opening Polycarbonate Rooflight is designed for simple, secure installation on flat or low-pitch roofs.

It can be mounted onto an existing builder's upstand or installed with a supplied insulated kerb. The opening mechanism is available in both manual and powered options for added flexibility.

Installation guidelines

  • Suitable for installation onto existing builder's upstands or with a supplied Brett Martin insulated kerb.
  • Ensure the upstand is correctly dimensioned, insulated, and weathered prior to installation.
  • Glazing must be correctly orientated, with the UV-resistant layer facing upwards (as marked).
  • For powered opening versions, ensure electrical connections are made by a qualified electrician in accordance with current wiring regulations.
  • Thermal fracture caution: Avoid placing blinds directly beneath the glazing; use light-coloured blinds positioned away from the rooflight to reduce risk of thermal stress fracture.
  • Minimum upstand height and slope should be checked per building regulations and installation guide recommendations.

What is an opening dome rooflight?

An opening dome rooflight is a roof window designed to provide both natural daylight and ventilation. The opening mechanism allows fresh air to enter the room while maintaining excellent weather resistance and insulation.

Are polycarbonate rooflights suitable for a flat roof?

Yes, the Mardome Polycarbonate range is specifically designed for flat roofs and low-pitched roofs (up to 15°), making it ideal for these applications.

What are the benefits of a polycarbonate rooflight?

Polycarbonate rooflights are lightweight, highly durable, UV-resistant, and less prone to breakage than traditional glass. They are also an affordable solution for bringing natural light into flat roof spaces.

Does it comply with building regulations?

Mardome Polycarbonate rooflights can be specified to meet building regulations. Brett Martin recommends consulting your local building control authority before ordering to ensure compliance with your intended application.

What are the U-values?

Overall, U-values depend on the size and specification of the rooflight. Specific values are available on request.

Centre pane U-values by glazing type:
Single skin: 5.5 W/m²K
Double skin: 2.7 W/m²K
Triple skin: 1.8 W/m²K

Does the rooflight arrive fully assembled?

Yes, the rooflight is supplied ready for installation. Please ensure any required accessories or upstands are ordered separately if needed.

Do you provide installation services?

No, we supply rooflights only and do not offer installation. We recommend using a reputable local roofer or qualified installer to carry out the fitting professionally.

What are the glazing options?

You can choose from clear, opal (diffused), and patterned tint glazing options.

Will the polycarbonate dome discolour over time?

The polycarbonate dome is manufactured with UV-resistant properties to help reduce yellowing and maintain clarity for longer.

How do I install it?

Installation is straightforward. The Mardome dome is delivered with all required fixings and an installation guide. For additional help, installation videos are available on the Brett Martin YouTube channel: Brett Martin Installation Videos.

Can this rooflight be used in bathrooms and kitchens?

Yes, opening dome rooflights are particularly popular in bathrooms, kitchens, and utility rooms because they provide both natural light and additional ventilation.

What's the difference between single, double, and triple skin?

The difference between single-, double-, and triple-skin refers to the number of polycarbonate layers in the dome. Triple skin provides the best thermal performance and is recommended to comply with Part L of the building regulations.

What is the delivery lead time?

Most of our deliveries arrive within 3–5 working days after purchase. Delivery times may vary for bespoke or special-order products.

Does the rooflight come with a warranty?

Yes, the Mardome Range comes with a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty for peace of mind.

Will a polycarbonate dome make my room cold?

No. When correctly specified, a polycarbonate dome will not make your room feel cold. It also enhances natural daylight in the room below.

Do I need planing permission?

In most cases, planning permission is not required for rooflight installation. However, Brett Martin advises consulting your local planning authority before proceeding.
